The surgical tactic in children with the abdominal cryptorchidism

SUMMARY

Cryptorchidism is the most common genital anomaly that required the timely surgical correction. By that, the results of surgical management not fully satisfy not only surgeons, but also the patients and their parents.

The aim of the study was to determine the tactic of the surgical treatment children with the abdominal form of cryptorchidism on the base of results of diagnostic laparoscopy.

The study grounded on the results of surgery of 80 children with abdominal form of cryptorchidism: the laparoscopic interventions performed in 21 (26.25%) children and conventional - in 59 (73.75%) of them. Among the conventional surgical interventions, the Petriwalski-Schoemaker operation was applied in 41 (69.5%) children. Results of two-step laparoscopic intervention (Fowler-Stephens operation) some better then one-step operation, but this difference is not significant (p>0.05).

Laparoscopy permits to chose the adequate tactic of the surgical management of children with the abdominal form of cryptorchidism - one- or two-step intervention, but the method of testis descends (laparoscopic or conventional) depended of the surgeons’ choice and clinics’ capabilities.
