Sexual function disorder in the multiple sclerosis patients

SUMMARY

There were 176 people examined, 123 of them were MS patients (63 female and 60 male) and 53 healthy individuals. The partners of the female patients were also tested. The average age of patients was 32,8 ± 6,5 years; average duration of the disease - 6,2 ± 4,9 years; disability level by EDSS scale - 3,3 ± 1.5 points. The average age of healthy individuals was 28,5 ± 8,8 years, disability level by EDSS scale - 0 points.

The patients and healthy persons underwent complex clinical neurological examination and were tested with anonymous questionnaires (MFSQ, IIEF, SEAR).

74,8 % of patients: 37 (61,7%) males and 55 (87,3%) females, had a SF disorder. Male patients demonstrated significant deterioration of erectile function and decrease of SF by all factors after age 36. Female patients experienced significant decrease of sexual desire and SF deterioration by other factors after age 36. Statistically minor deterioration of sexual relationships was observed in MT patients with age.

It was discovered that the MT patients after age 36 experience decrease of SF and deterioration of sexual relationships with partners.
