Myths and true about transrectal drug usage
SUMMARY
Author performed literature search about transrectal drug usage in urology. Only certain amount of drugs can be sucked through rectal mucosa. No evidence about direct influence on prostate from rectum was found. Hemoprostatic barrier also decreased possibility of drugs to perfuse into prostate. So some of drugs (like animal extracts) can’t be recommending for transrectal usage.
