The study analyzed the efficacy of TURP in complex treatment of patients with locally advanced and disseminated forms of the prostate cancer.
The study involved 348 patients with late stages of the prostate cancer. The main group included 261 patients which undergone TURP as an integral part of complex prostate cancer treatment. The comparative group included 87 patients which received hormonal or combined medicamentous therapy only. The dynamic observation results were the following: the level of complications related to TURP reached 14% and considered to be acceptable; the transurethral endoscopic surgery was not proved to be the cause of local progression or dissemination of the tumor; the combined treatment (TURP + hormonal therapy) was proved to be more effective than hormonal therapy alone in patients with prostate cancer of late stages and with signs of bladder outlet obstruction; also, combined treatment greatly improves the quality of life for the patients.
