Сytokine profile in bladder cancer patients against background influence of probiotic A-bacterinum

SUMMARY

Probiotics are perspective preparations for adjuvant therapies at patients with transitional cell bladder cancer. Features of their influence on local immunity are scantily known. Research objective was studying the levels of cytokins tumor necrosis factor (TNF)- alfa, interferon (IFN)-gamma, interleukins (IL)-1,-2 and -6 in urine and serum of bladder cancer patients after single bladder instillation of probiotic A-bacterinum, containing Aerococcus viridans 167.

Materials and methods. 29 patients with a superficial bladder cancer had a single bladder instillation of probiotic A-bacterinum 1-5 days prior to operative treatment. Further patients received the standard therapy regulated by confirmed treatment protocols for bladder cancer patients. Levels of the TNF-alfa, IFN-gamma, IL-1, -2 and -6 in urine and serum were studied using ELISA using monoclonal antibodies.

Results and conclusions. Single bladder instillation of probiotic A-bacterinum does not cause statistically significant changes of IL-2 and IL-6 in urine and TNF-alfa, IFN-gamma in urine and serum of bladder cancer patients. Growth of IL-1 level in urine after single A-bacterinum bladder instillation supplements antaginistic activity of aerococci and, perhaps, is one of the links of their antineoplastic activity.
