Results of treatment of distal hypospadias in children depending on the age

SUMMARY

A retrospective analysis of case histories of 146 patients with distal hypospadias who were operated on from 2003 to 2013 were performed. Primary one-stage surgeries were carried out in all patients. The surgery MAGPI (meatoplasty and glanuloplasty) was used in 33 cases of capitateform, with the crown and stem medium form - Mathieu surgery in 88 patients and TIP (tubularized incised plate) in 25.

36 operations were carried out at the age of 6 to 12 months, 24 - from 13 to 18 months, 12 - at the age of 19 to 24 months, 12 - at the age of 25 to 30 months, 62 patients - in over the age of 30 months. The average age of the operated patients was 3,85 years.

The total number of early postoperative complications in the study group was 20 (13,7%). Analysis of complications showed that the children were operated at the age of 6 to 12 months were5,6% complications, at the age of 13 to 18 months -12,5%, aged from 19 to 24 months - 16,7%, aged 25 to 30 months - 25%, aged more than 30 months - 16,1%. Patients who underwent surgery for up to 12 months indicated only 5,6% complications, whereas in the age group over 1 year were 16,4% complications.

Thus, the optimal age for surgical correction of distal hypospadias in children is between the ages of 6 months to 1 year. The risk of early postoperative complications is higher in children who are operated over the age of 1 year.
