Laparoscopic and open pyeloplasty, comparative characteristics

SUMMARY

Prospective randomized investigation covered 49 patients with pyelo-ureteral junction stricture operated in urological departments of the State Scientific Centre "Scientific and Practicing Centre of Preventive and Clinical Medicine" on the basis of the State Affairs Governance in Kyiv and Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital during 2008 - 2010. There were two groups of patients: 14 who were cured with laparoscopic pyeloplasty and 35 treated by open pyeloplasty. The average duration of laporoscopic pyeloplasty is 184.3 min when the open pyeloplasty lastes about 120.2 min; this fact can be considered the only advantage of the last method. The analysis of the results of clinical criteria is the following: the hemorrhage during laporoscopic pyeloplasty - 86 ml. compared with 164 ml. when performing open pyeloplasty; the amount of “Naklofen” used after operation as anesthesia - during laporoscopic pyeloplasty - 110 mg compared with 480 mg usied during open pyeloplasty; hospitalasation after the operation - laporoscopic pyeloplasty - 3.2 days compared to 7.6 days after open pyeloplasty; partial and full rehabilitation of patients after laporoscopic pyeloplasty is 1 and 3days compared with 12 and 25 days after open pyeloplasty. Thus, laporoscopic pyeloplasty can be considered a new standard in pyeloureteral junction stricture treatment.
