Emphysematous pyelonephritis

Emphysematous pyelonephritis is an acute pyelonephritis, due to getting into the kidney‘s parenchyma microorganisms that cause necrotizing inflammation and gas formation.

Causative organisms are capable of fermenting glucose to form gas and acid. Among them, the leading role takes E. coli. In more rare cases, emphysematous pyelonephritis causes true anaerobes.

Often this disease is observed in diabetes mellitus and urinary tract obstruction cases.

The gold standard of diagnosis is a computer tomography. It also allows you to choose between capacities of surgery treatment.

In this article we analyzed the experience of treatment of emphysematous pyelonephritis in the Clinic of Urology Regional Clinical Hospital named by Mechnikov (Dnipropetrovsk) over 5 years - from 2011 to 2015.

Also in the article is considers the clinical case of emphysematous pyelonephritis, which the character of currents is possible to carry to a variant with the causative agent as a true anaerobe.
